Treasure His Words…

Would you believe me if I told you that I have not always studied the scriptures like I would like to? Would you believe me if I told you that I have even been through seasons when I did not want to read God’s word. Would you believe me if I told you that I have also been through seasons when I did read my bible, I did pray to the Lord, but somehow, I couldn’t feel God. I felt like I was all alone and I wasn’t sure why I couldn’t feel God like I once had before. I am sure many of you reading this  have been through some of the same seasons that I just described.

For the past couple of years, the desire to dig DEEP into Gods word has grown inside of me! A desire to read and study the scriptures and not just to find a scripture that would make me feel better about my day, but to really study His word to find out who He is and through those scriptures, God has reveled things to me about him, and also revealed things to me about myself. It has been the most rewarding thing to stay dedicated to reading and studying God’s word, even in the midst of all the daily tasks that I do have.

“But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold. For I have stayed on God’s paths; I have followed his ways and not turned aside. I have not departed from his commands, but have treasured his words more than daily food. ” (Job 23:10-12)

Ya’ll! That last verse gets me overtime! In verse 12, Job tells us that he has treasured the words of the Lord, even more than his daily food! This is a man who was stripped of everyone he loved, all of his earthly belongings. He is siting on the hard ground with the three friends who came to try to console him once they heard the news. At one point in the story, they all sat in silence for 7 days – and no one said a word. “Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and nights. No one said a word to Job, for they saw that his suffering was too great for words.” (Job 2:13)

But once he does start talking, he continues to remind us that he still has faith and trust in God, even though his life is now a pile of ashes.

I have not departed from his commands, but have treasured his words more than daily food. (Job 23:10-12)

How differently would this story have been had Job not known the commands of the Lord, or had not studied the words of the Lord before this happened to him?

In order to know the commands and words of the Lord, we must actually study those words. There is good news! God left us with a book to go by! It’s a book that is a roadmap for life – The Holy Bible!

2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.”

In October, I have decided to read through the book of Romans. Would you like to join me? Here is a quick printable you can use to save to your phone or print, to follow along.
